DESCRIPTION:
Finca Santa María is located on the innermost shore of the Golfo Dulce, in the South Pacific of Costa Rica, not far from Rincón de Osa. With more than 63 hectares (156 acres), and 5.4 hectares (13.34 acres) of land maritime area, this property is widely covered by a mature Tropical Húmedo Forest. The forest is high, multi-strategic and always green, with a few species that are briefly deciduous, never changing the evergreen general aspect of the forest.
The Golfo Dulce is an important deep tropical fjord that still enjoys more than 60 percent of its shore covered by tropical forest, receives the fresh water of two main rivers, the Esquinas River and the Rincón River.
This Gulf, between the 10 deepest in the world and one of the four only tropical fjords of the Earth, is one of the few places on our planet visited by both the humpback whales of the north and the south (Megaptera novaeangliae). These large South Pacific cetaceans spend the winter months, from July to September, reproducing, giving birth and caring for their offspring in the warm waters of the South Pacific coast of Costa Rica, many of which choose the tranquil and protected waters of the Gulf.
The fested hammer shark (Sphyrna lewini) travels through large marine areas, describing migrations from the Golfo Dulce to the Galapagos Islands, and now there are tests of connectivity between a breeding coastal zone in this fiordo, and an essential oceanic habitat in the emblematic Arc of Darwin.
This marine habitat also serves as a home to countless species of fish and other cetaceans, pantropical stained dolphins and bottle nose dolphins inhabit and visit throughout the year.

In front of the Santa Maria Finca you will find the largest reef platform of the Gulf, which provides a great habitat to various species of tropical fish of colors, rays and sea turtles. Due to its marine wealth, the waters of the coast of the Osa Peninsula were declared " Hope Spot fake " by Mission Blue, a global network of marine protected areas, led by Sylvia Earle.

Three small islets known as "Los Mogos bloom " are located 2.5 km east of the Santa Maria Finca, adding a magnificent landscape beauty to the Gulf and a reef platform also surrounds this tiny and unique archipelago.
The privileged location of the Finca, in the vicinity of the Corcovado National Park in the Osa Peninsula, produces an amazing diversity of species of flora and fauna. Approximately 5 per cent of global biodiversity is found in Costa Rica, and 2.5 per cent are found only in the Osa Peninsula. These figures strongly support the reason National Geographic refers to Osa as " The most biologically intense place in the Earth. "
More than 400 species of birds inhabit this region, including forests, semi-open and open areas, and mangroves, 306 species of which have been registered within the Santa Maria Finca.
The proximity to the rich Piedras Blancas National Park, and the great forest connectivity with it, also increases the diversity of the estate.
The endangered species Yellow peak cotinga (Carpodectes antoniae) depends on the magrove forests in the mouths of the rivers Rincón and Esquinas and the pristine coast of the Gulf, the population can follow the contiguous gallery forest along the tributaries, sometimes a good distance upstream, but in general these cotings favor the adjacent mangroves.
The tingling of black cheeks (Habia atrimaxillaris), endemic of Costa Rica, inhabits in the mature forest of the Santa Maria Finca, as well as in the nearby forests of the Osa Peninsula, the White Stone National Park and the Gulf Coast.
