Orotina is a small city that is located in the southwest corner of the province of Alajuela.
The district of Orotina covers an area of 19.99 km² and has an estimated population of 15,705 inhabitants (2010).
The city is at an altitude of 229 meters, in a relatively flat section west of the Costa Rican mountain range (called Montes del Aguacate in that sector).
With the Ciudad Colón-Orotina road (Route 27), the time it takes to get from the capital to Orotina is 45 minutes.

The VISTA MAR project is located in Hacienda Vieja de Orotina (in the mountains), 600m above sea level, which allows it to have a cool climate. It is 42km (45minutes) from the center of the city of Puntarenas, province on the Pacific coast of the country, with the closest beaches to the capital, and the port of Caldera.
